Common Disorders
Our specialists in pediatric neurology treat children with a variety of neurological disorders including:
Epilepsy

Neuromuscular Disorders
Cerebral Palsy
Seizures
Tics
Speech Dysfunction (Cognital Aphasia)
Muscle Weakness (myopathy)
A child's neurological system includes the brain and nervous system. It's the command center that connects the body's different parts to each and allows them to work together properly. When there are problems in the neurological system, specialists from our pediatric neurology team will work with your primary care team to diagnose and treat the problem with the most advanced, state-of-the-art care available.
Since 1967 the child neurologists at the University of Kentucky have been serving the families of eastern and central Kentucky through direct patient care and research. We bring a unique combination of neuroscience and pediatric expertise to our patients. In Lexington we see out-patients along with the other neurologists in the Kentucky Clinic. For our in-patients we utilize the Kentucky Children's Hospital where we have two dedicated video/EEG rooms.
Facilities
If your child requires inpatient or observation monitoring or procedures, they will receive care at our facilities in UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital or Kentucky Children's Hospital. There we use MRI, CT and video EEG monitoring to diagnose your child and determine treatment. Our specialists also visit the Appalachian counties of Eastern Kentucky where clinics are held in conjunction with the Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs (CCSHCN) to make sure every child with a neurological disorder receives the treatment they need.
Other Locations
Outside of Lexington we conduct child neurology clinics for Appalachian children in the following Eastern Kentucky locations: Ashland, Barbourville, Hazard, Manchester, Morehead, Pikeville, Prestonsburg, and Somerset. These clinics are conducted by local staff in conjunction with the Kentucky Commission for Children with Special Healthcare Needs and funding is available to help pay for a child's medicines, tests and visits. We also conduct a Commission child neurology clinic for Central Kentucky children in Lexington. To find out where these clinics are located, click here.
